Amazonas Rainforest Protection
The Project
INITIATOR
Markus Bodenmeier, a Munich-based investor in solutions to combat climate change, is the project initiator and has launched the Seruini Rainforest Protection Project (SERUINI) in 2023.
THE GOAL
The projects' goal is to realize a major nature-based climate change project in the Amazonas state in Brazil by protecting, regenerating and the sustainable management of rainforest spanning an area of 1.3 million hectare, which is five times the size of Luxembourg.
CARBON UNIT PROJECT
SERUINI is currently applying for registration as a carbon unit project with an international recognized organization, which will be followed with certification and verification.
CARBON REDUCTION
It is expected that an annual reduction of around 26 m tons of CO2-eq can be achieved. Other activities such as reforestation and sustainable management of the rainforest can further increase the climate-positive impact of SERUINI.
Stewardship for nature
PROJECT AREA
The SERUINI project covers a total area of 1.3 million hectares, of which 92.7% is rainforest. The area consists of 12 sub-areas that extend along both sides of the Seruini river.

DEFORESTATION
Data on Global Forest Change provided by the University of Maryland indicates, that the SERUINI project area experienced significant deforestation since the year 2000.

What we do
REDD+ APPROACH
Forests absorb vast amounts of carbon dioxide and can be a source of greenhouse gas emissions when destroyed or damaged. The aim of SERUINI is to pursue its activities under the REDD+ framework to reduce emissions from deforestation and forest degradation.
For more information on REDD+, visit the United Nations Climate Change website.
FOREST-RELATED ACTIVITIES
SERUINI plans to undertake forest-related activities that protect the climate, namely sustainable management of forests and the conservation and enhancement of forest carbon stocks. In addition, SERUINI aims at achieving quantified biodiversity gains through reforestation of land that suffered forest loss over the past decades.
Nature-based Technology

SERUINI works with indigenous people to achieve sustainable and resilient rainforest management, leveraging millennia-old indigenous philosophies and infrastructures as well as nature-based technologies.
Nature-based technologies, as Julia Watson describes in her book Lo-TEK, are a culmination of knowledge, practices, and beliefs from multiple generations. They challenge the notion that indigenous innovation is primitive and exists in isolation from technology. They are sophisticated and designed for sustainable collaboration with complex ecosystems.
SERUINI believes that only meaningful projects based on traditional ecological knowledge will lead to the long-term protection of the rainforest. These projects should also contribute to preserving traditional ways of life and promoting the economic development of the regions.
Impact assessment
BIODIVERSITY ASSESSMENT
Biometrio.earth, has developed a holistic approach to biodiversity assessment. Using cutting-edge technology and near-real-time satellite imagery, forest loss can be detected, vegetation indices can be modeled, and land-use changes can be monitored. Furthermore, above- and belowground carbon stocks can be modeled, as well as greenhouse gas emission reductions can be estimated.

HIGH-END TECHNOLOGY
Space-borne and in-site sensors will be used to measure and permanently monitor the performance (carbon, biodiversity, trees planted, hectares protected) and real impacts of nature-based solution (NbS) projects. This technology also enables next level interactive story telling using soundscapes, high resolution pictures of key species, as well as interactive information on critical habitats.

Carbon Units
THE SOLUTION TO YOUR IRREDUCIBLE EMISSIONS.
We offer high-value and high integrity Carbon Units to compensate for your unavoidable or past emissions, and thus a vital carbon compensation tool that help to restore and protect our planet.
Our Carbon Units, also known as carbon credits, represent meaningful and sustainably climate-friendly activities that are geared toward verifiable ecological results. This is ensured through Gold Standard verification and authentically documented to our customers through transparent reporting.
Purchasing our Carbon Units is a great way for your business to address your carbon footprint and contribute to environmental improvement of the most biodiverse region on earth. Billions of trees absorb tons of carbon dioxide every year and slow down the climate change along with producing 20% of earth's oxygen, hence they are the “Lungs of our Earth”.
